The Problem

An EdTech business focused on test preparation grew through acquisitions, leaving them with several learning platforms targeting different professional test prep needs. The organization was ready to consolidate everything under one platform, but needed to identify the breath of features each professional user group needed to understand how to properly optimize their product roadmap.

The Approach

We developed a survey that included a MaxDiff module, a valuable tactic for understanding how much users prioritize one set of features over others. We also included a TURF analysis to identify any features that could be of limited overall utility, but of extreme need to specific subsets within professional groups. Finally, we aggregated preference data from across all groups to identify the features that were consistently of value versus those with only in-group value.

The Results

Feature Prioritization

We identified a series of features that users across all professional groups needed, indicating where priority development work was needed.

Feature Deprecation

We determined that niche, standalone features in legacy platforms had little value, allowing our client to deprecate their presence in the product roadmap and minimize spending resource on little-needed features.

Did You Know...

MaxDiff studies allow you to read not just what people value, but how much they value it over other options. It’s a great research tactic for understanding the relative preference of potential options, letting teams prioritize their innovation and development strategies.
